Chiranjeevi's Daughter Seeks Police Protection

Rizwanur Rahman’s fate on her lips, superstar Chiranjeevi’s daughter and her husband made a dramatic appearance in Delhi High Court today and sought protection.

Srija, 19, appealed for the court’s help this morning, saying she feared a repeat of the Calcutta case, in which industrialist Ashok Todi, Rizwanur’s father-in-law, has been named in an FIR that for the time being treats the young graphic designer’s death as murder.

Srija and Shirish Bhardwaj, 22, who had married against their families’ wishes in Hyderabad on Wednesday and gone underground, surfaced before the high court today.

“The couple came to the capital, changing several cars on the way to save themselves,” Srija’s counsel Pinky Anand told the chief justice, pressing for an urgent hearing.

The court asked police to extend immediate protection to the newly-weds, though Chiranjeevi’s lawyer Maninder Singh kept assuring the judge that there was no threat to the couple.

The actor had also made a public statement on TV blessing his daughter, Singh said.

“Delhi police would be kept informed by the petitioners (Srija and Shirish) about their residential address in the capital. The police shall give necessary protection so that their lives face no danger,” Chief Justice S.N. Dhingra said.

The court then adjourned the matter till October 29 to allow Chiranjeevi time to reply to the allegations.

In her petition, Srija said she had married a Brahmin at an Arya Samaj temple, which her family, belonging to the Kapu caste, did not approve of.

Anand said Srija, a chartered accountancy student, also wanted protection against any old case that may be reopened or new ones that might be filed against the couple to intimidate them. “There are reports in a section of the media about some cases pending against Shirish.”

Newspapers have claimed that Chiranjeevi had opposed the marriage because of Shirish’s involvement in an earlier case. The engineering graduate had reportedly eloped with a minor girl in 2002. A case of kidnapping was registered, but the charges were eventually dropped after the girl’s family backed out.

Shirish today rubbished the charge. “All allegations are false. I don’t know why an old case is being linked to my marriage now,” he said.

Chiranjeevi’s younger brother Pavan Kalyan said there was “absolutely no threat” to the couple’s lives from the family. “We neither have any idea about their whereabouts nor are we searching for them,” Kalyan, also an actor, told reporters in Hyderabad.

He also surrendered his revolver at the Jubilee Hills police station. “I am surrendering the weapon so that there is no scope for any misunderstanding. We wish Srija a happy life wherever she is,” he said.

Kalyan advised the newly-weds not to waste the police’s time “as law-enforcing agencies have more important things to do”.

'Aa' sentiment hits this summer

The Telugu industry almost survives on sentiment. Most of the films would begin with a particular sentiment and even our heroes believe this sentiment.

Though there was a comment that the summer releases this year were not that successful, on the other hand 'Aa' sentiment is being worked out well during this season. 'Jagadam and Okkadunnadu' though received a positive response, there were not that great hits.

However, EVV Satyanarayana's 'Attili Sattibabu' achieved a huge commercial success. The full run collections of Kitakitalu were recovered in just one week run of 'Attili Sattibabu'. The next release 'Dhee' though proved a hit film, it was still proved week as far as collections.

The next release Victory Venkatesh's film 'Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verule', which starts with the letter 'Aa' again proved a super success.

Dil Raju's film with Prabhas as hero 'Munna' is also running with a divided talk. Finally, in order to come to a conclusion, the films which started with the latter 'Aa' were running in a good range even now.

Now, MS Raju's film, with Siddhartha as hero, 'Aata' would also become a big hit if the sentiment was true, claim Film Nagar sources.

Conflict between five heroines!!!

These days, it is difficult to have a trouble-free shooting with just one heroine. Imagine what it would be like to make a film with five heroines!!! The stunt was recently attempted in Tamil with great success. The five heroines in question were very well-known in Telugu too- Sneha, Namitha, Malavika, Jyothirmayi (from '12 Strangers') and Keerthi Chawla.

When the shooting was on, there were no conflicts among the actresses.

But now problem has surfaced.

It all began when one of the reporters asked the director about the pay packages to the five heroines. He wanted to know who was paid the most.

Everybody assumed that Sneha would have received the highest pay because all the other heroines in the film were more glamour-prone and therefore were somehow considered lesser mortals when it comes to pay cheques.

The director was in a dilemma. He simply said, "My task was to direct the film and complete it without troubles. You'll have to ask the producer about the pay cheques."

Trisha returns as Chiru's heroine???

It looks as if Trisha is fast becoming an 'old habit' of director Prabhudeva.

For some mysterious reason, the team of 'Shankardada Zindabad' just hasn't been able to make its mind up about the film's heroine. Initially, everybody was bent on bringing Vidhya Balan in as the heroine. She just wouldn't accept the offer because she had old scores to settle with the south Indian film industry and she is very busy with her Bollywood offers.

Then, there was Asin. She was okay until the Hindi version of 'Ghajini' with Aamir Khan happened.

Prabhudeva and Trisha are very good friends. There were rumors that the actress was the one who had recommended him as the director of the Tamil version of 'Pokkiri'. She had already worked as heroine in both the films that Prabhudeva had directed in Telugu.

Now, it seems the director is eager to bring her in as the heroine of 'Shankardada Zindabad'. She was Chiranjeevi's heroine in his previous film 'Stalin' too, so he isn't going to be that pleased about working with her in two consecutive films.

What we don't understand is- why has it become so difficult to find a heroine for a Megastar film???
